Munda Biddi Day 3 Wungong Hut to Dandalup Hut
Woke up early
Departed at 7.05 am back on the hut diversion then back on the trail south through some Jarrah forests that have had logging at some stage but shady enough in the cool morning but knowing it will get hot again today. Not far along the crank came off, as had happened before on a previous trip.
Arrived at Jarrahdale at 9.55am.
Good ride so far with more dirt roads than single trail and a rail trail that passed an old Prisoner of War (WW2) camp housing the Italians that were in Australia at the time who were forced to cut down the surrounding forest for timber.
At Jarrahdale stopped fo rmorning tea - can of coke, Weiss Mango icecream, tea and a cake with cream. A few old guys and their motorbikes also cruising the forests roads stopped at the shop.
Gluten free at the store is bacon and eggs, so breakfast on the menu. On the shelf baked beans, no lunch, could have takeaway chips not sure if they had GF buns but they had burgers.
Departed to the sounds of birds with a steap uphill following a water pipe to the town and hiker bike action then alot more uphill along a singletrack that ran parrallel to a dirt road with views of the valley below. Lots of twists and turns and a few hiker bikes on short sections until the top.
Had the drone crash into the tree as I still havent worked out the drone
Then it was on dirt roads or 4wd tracks until the track goes past a few farms then your on bitumen Boyd Road and uphill then down onto the dam wall of North Dandalup Dam. Once on top I could see some green grass and a lovely water hole so went back to the turn off to the picnic spot below. Arrived at about 1.30pm, had lunch and chilled out until it was cooler. Swimming prohibited signs up, not sure why. Surrounded by Cockatoos. Toilets available as well as water. Around 4.00pm a group of locals came for a swim and departed, along with a rubish truck so I thought it was time to leave. It was great sitting in the shade on grass chillin. A quick drone fly and back on bike for the steep uphill , hiker bike and back along the Dam wall knowing it was only 30 minutes , 3km and uphill to the hut.
Legs are sore, groin rash and shoulders ok with backpack. Able to get some aero bar action and relax the shoulders. Occassionally the backpack causes the left shoulder to be sore or its the bike set up but I can feel my trapezius getting bigger as my shirts are getting tighter around the shoulders, not the chest or gut.
